Cpl. Darren James Fitzpatrick

While the media and even supporters of our soldiers focus primarily on those who have died in combat, it is often forgotten that many hundreds of Canadian soldiers have been injured in Afghanistan; some grievously.

One such soldier was Cpl. Darren James Fitzpatrick, who was injured in Afghanistan and survived long enough to make it home to Canada. He passed away surrounded by those who loved him.

Cpl. Fitzpatrick's battle with wounds suffered in combat serves as a reminder to us that the cost of war and service to country is also bourn by the living ... those who struggle, along with their families, to rebuild their lives because of battlefield injuries. Some, like Cpl. Fitzpatrick, lose that battle, and are added to the roll call of those who have given their all.

We will not forget them.
